Eurail vs other trains in France

We will be going to Paris in July 2008. We will be traveling from Paris to Nice, Nice to Avignon and from Avignon back to Paris. There will be 2 adults and 1 student, under 26 y.o., traveling. Does anyone know if we would be better off getting a Eurail pass or taking the local trains. I have checked various websites but have had trouble deciding what to do.

Thanks for any info.

You can get comprehensive information on France rail passes (and all others) at the Rick Steves site - their cost, how to use them, etc.

You can get point-to-point ticket prices under the French rail website: www.sncf.com

Then you compare prices and decide.

Thank you so much, I will check this out.
