Could you tell me how far it is from where the Eurostar stops to the centre of Paris. We want to book a hotel near all the sights but also fairly easy to get to from Eurostar.

The Eurostar goes to the Gare du Nord, which is fairly central.
There are various kinds of public transportation. If in doubt, proceed to the taxi line at the west end of the station with the address written down to show to the driver. Pay the metered fare plus €2,60 plus €1 per bag.
