Neighborhood report in the 18th

We%26#39;re considering an apartment in the 18th, north of Montmartre, near the Porte de Clignancourt metro stop. We don%26#39;t plan to spend a lot of time in the apartment, but there will be four 17-year-old girls who will be coming home in a pack in the evenings.

Is this a reasonable neighborhood? We don%26#39;t need fancy, but I don%26#39;t want run-down and shady.

And the all-important question: is there a good patisserie in the area??

It wouldn%26#39;t be my choice for a location, 17-year olds or not...

Here%26#39;s a suggestion - type %26quot;clignancourt%26quot; into the search at TOP LEFT - then click on any hotel in that area and read all the comments.

There is an IBIS and a hotel called Iliade...

I stayed in the 11th and loved it. Our neighborhood, very very close to Pere Lachaise, was a very lively yet quiet area. Grocery stores, cheese shops, meat shops, bakeries, cafes, a park and several metro and bus stops within easy walking distance.

Really, it%26#39;s not a nice area, out of a lot of things. Why don%26#39;t you try the 6th, 4th or 7th

I%26#39;m with travelnutty. Not a desirable neighborhood. Not dangerous (for the most part), but spoiled by the flea market crowds I think. It does fall into the category of %26quot;places I%26#39;d feel uncomfortable walking at 1AM%26quot; though. No, I wouldn%26#39;t want my 17yo daughter navigating this neighborhood at night without some local street smarts. My daughter is 27 and I%26#39;d still have a problem with it.

This is a no-go neighborhood for 17 year old American girls to be coming in late at night...Sor ry...

I assume you%26#39;re looking at northern 18th arr. b/c you see cheap apartments there.... for a reason...

Try looking at apartments in the 15th or 13th - very residential areas and I%26#39;ve not read of any concerns about the streets.. prices should be lower b/c there are no %26#39;sights%26#39; or notions of %26#39;romantic%26#39; there.

Looking at the hotel reviews in that area gave me a good idea of what to expect....my search continues.

We%26#39;re going over spring break in March, and need an apartment for seven. We%26#39;re even willing to tough it out with one bath if necessary. Availability for our price range is an issue.

How about going a little further, like la Defense? As long as we%26#39;re close to a metro, we%26#39;re fine with a residential area.
