Your thoughts on Mont St Michel as a day trip from Paris???

I was interested in feedback regarding day trips to Mont St Michel from Paris.

I%26#39;ve had a look at a couple of tours. One tour was a coach trip from Paris, which spent about 4 to 5 hours getting there, approx 4 hrs at Michel and 4 hour trip back.... lots of sitting on a coach!

The other tour picked you up from Rennes Station(after you arrived by train from Paris) and would take you to Rennes, St Malo, Dinan and Mont St Michel all in one day with drop off back at Rennes at 7pm. Is it possible to go to all these places and not feel rushed? I thought Mt St Michele should require a half day?

Any other options? Any advice would be much appreciated.

IMO, it%26#39;s entirely too much for one day. Although it%26#39;s possible to see MSM in 4 hours, when you factor in time to eat lunch, it%26#39;ll all just be a blur.

If you can afford two days, I%26#39;d recommend travel to MSM, stay there that night, and visit St Malo the next day.

I should like to add to Metromole%26#39;s caution about trying to make MSM a day trip. While there are tour companies which will take your money to drive you there for the day, spending most of a day sitting in a bus is a genuine waste of one%26#39;s time resource. Additionally, unless you are doing a trip of this type in summer, a great deal of time spent on the bus will be in darkness of night.

Unless someone has the luxury of time and can spend several days to visit this area, his time is better spent discovering and exploring Paris.

Thanks Metromole and Sarastro, I suspected it would be too much. This was in fact our original plan to stay in the area for 2 nights and also see St Malo but it was becoming quite difficult organising a hire car on a Sunday (our arrival date)from Rennes. (Not to mention costly for an Auto, for 24 year olds)

Anyway, I think we will go back and relook at this and maybe further explore public transport options.

Travelling from Rennes to MSM to St Malo - is it reasonably easy to get around to these places without a car?
