Arrival In Paris - help wanted please

My parner and I are having our first holiday together to celebrate my 40th birthday. We arrive at CDG airport at lunchtime on Thursday 7th February and are staying for 4 nights.

We are staying at a hotel on Rue de Clichy (I think between Place de Clichy and Liege metro stations).

Please could someone advise us, do we get the RER from the airport to Gard de Nord and then the metro to Liege. Are all these fairly easy to find?

Any advice would be gratefully received. xxxx

I haven%26#39;t used it myself, but I understand that www.parishuttle.com is good and reliable. (note there is only one %26quot;s%26quot; in the web address).

The metro line that Liege is on does not go to the Gare du Nord. Getting to Liege would require changing to the RER E at Gare du Nord to St. Lazare and then changing to the Line 13 to Liege.

An alternative would be to go to the Place de Clichy stop. At the Gare du Nord, there is an underground passage to transfer to the Line 2 station La Chappelle. This goes direct to the Place de Clichy.

Both options will mean going up and down some stairs. The walk from Place de Clichy towards Liege is downhill.

The 54 bus stops directly in front of the Gare du Nord and goes to the Place de Clichy, but this would require purchasing a separate metro/bus ticket.

You%26#39;ll have to make 2 changes after Gare du Nord to get to Liege... are you sure you want to go this way with your luggage?

A shuttle would probably be good, at least for arriving (at CDG)... you could decide if you want to use the RER for your return to the airport after you%26#39;ve got your %26#39;metro%26#39; bearings.

...or at least take the RER to Gare du Nord then maybe a taxi to the hotel from there...

Thanks for all your advice. I think we will have a go at getting the RER from the airport and then the metro from Gare de Nord.

Does the RER run near to the airport?

Thanks

My understanding is the RER has a terminal at the airport.

My family is traveling - arriving on a Friday morning and we are staing on Rue Cler - we plan on taking RER to St. Michel and transfering to the Yellow line and then to the lavenderish line and depart at Ecole Militare (sp). Does this make sense? How are those stations for transferring? If we decide to do a shuttle instead - 3 of us - which do you recommend?

THANKS!

You can get a lot of help with your questions at

www.easycdg.com

There are 2 RER stations at CDG- one is inside Terminal 2; the other is set apart from Terminal 1 and connected via CDGVAL lightrail.

The above site has terminal maps and RER information.

Your RER ticket to Paris will also cover your metro changes, as long as you stay in the subway system.

RER/Metro maps can be found at www.ratp.fr

For Algebra - we went to CDG from Ecole Militaire via RER last trip due to a taxi strike. Actually, to save a transfer, we walked to the Pont de l%26#39;Alma RER station and headed to CDG from there. Transferring at St-Michel required long hallways, escalators, and stairways. I would not have wanted to do this in reverse (from CDG), which would have required hauling our bags UP the stairs, rather than down. For three people, a taxi is more economical than a shuttle. And, in all the years we%26#39;ve been going to Paris, I%26#39;ve never heard of a shuttle that was reliable and/or efficient.

My understanding was the RER from CDG stopped at Gard Noir, Les Halles, St. Michel, and Luxembourg (excuse any mis-spellings). Does it also stop at Pont d%26#39;Alma? If so, we%26#39;ll walk from there to our hotel - that doesn%26#39;t seem so bad. Either way - to save a Metro transfer, if the RER doesn%26#39;t stop there we%26#39;ll get off at St. Michel and go three stops on the yellow line and get off at Pont d%26#39;Alma .... I am really hoping NOT to have much luggage! We%26#39;ll see.

Algebra,

Pont de l%26#39;Alma is a stop on the RER C line. At St. Michel, transfer from B to C (Chateau de Versailles), if that is convenient for you. Take a look at the transit map on the ratp website.
