Freebox internet - can anyone help, pretty please?!

I just checked into a Paris apartment that has something called %26quot;Freebox%26quot; for DSL. Usually, I just plug in a DSL cord into my computer, and it works. But this one it seems I need to download a CD which the apartment provides, however my computer keeps rejecting the disk. A long story short, I have been sitting here for nearly 2 hours trying to get DSL to work. Now I am looking for a way to download Freebox without a CD via their website, but everything is written in French, so here I am paying a bundle per hour to use a nearby hotel connection (and I only have 2 hours left). So can anyone help please? if you know what Freebox is and could either offer some advice on what I may be doing wrong or if there is a link to downloading the software without cd? I want this done and over with, and time is ticking for me. Thanks in advance

You should be able to use a Free box without any configuration other than the usual WiFi stuff.. Free is a DSL provider, as far as I know (being Orange myself) there is no tech specificities

It would help if you could provide more specifics. There are several types (generations) of Freeboxes; some offer WiFi (wireless) access, others require an ethernet cable to connect it to your computer. For Wifi you will need a WiFi adapter in you computer, of course (but most modern laptops have Wifi capability built in).

I%26#39;m not sure the CD you mention is absolutely necessary - often it only contains a simple application to adjust some settings. You should be able to do that manually.

And, what computer (OS version, etc.) are you using?

Enough information about the subject, but only in French: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freebox

I hope this helps...

well most important thing if u want to use free wifi from the freebox is to have the login and password for the connection. when i put mine with neuf provider i needed to cd in order for it to connect with the box, cause it went through several steps before it could connect, its not just like wifi in hotels, so i think the cd is necessary. not too sure though cause i dont know about free. good luck!

Thank you so much for the help. You were right, I did not end up needing the CD after all. For anyone else who runs into this problem in the future, my fix was to unplug the entire system for a couple of hours. It worked once it was reset. Thanks again

The most clever invention in the Computer history is the on/off switch.
