Dordogne - self catering. Any sugestions.

We want to visit the Dordogne region. H%26amp;W +13 year old for a week end of may/june. Maybe a swimmingpool - has to be selfcatering %26#39;cos I love cooking. We will have a car and can do day trips.

Never been to the area - 3 times to france.

Thanks

Beaulieu

This is probably not where you want to ask. Check http://www.pap.fr They have rentals all over France with good pictures.

Hi there - funny you should ask this question - we are planning our travel for 2007 and will spend 2 weeks in Italy and a week in Dordogne, possibly at this place -

perfectplaces.com/vacation-rentals/10871.htm

It%26#39;s an incredibly beautiful area, apparently. Check out Bergerac and surrounding towns. I%26#39;m really looking forward to it.

Also looking at perfectplaces.com/vacation-rentals/10886.htm which is much cheaper but minus the charm

Let me know your decision, ok??

Good luck!!

No swimming pool but these apartments in the old town area of Sarlat are a reasonable option

villaconsuls.com/apparts_villa_consuls_ang.h…

They have a secure garage available at a low price. I would go for a large apartment as they are so cheap. There is so much to see close to Sarlat - Beynac, Domme, Castelnaud

Check out a gite. Here is the site.

Another option is to look at various campsites in the area which often have %26#39;chalet%26#39; accommodation to rent - the better ones always have a pool, though generally open-air, which you might find too cool for May/June.

We%26#39;ve stayed on the site at Vitrac http://www.camping-soleil-plage.com/gb.html though not in their chalets. You will find names of campsites to investigate on the ubiquitous http://www.eurocamp.co.uk/, http://www.keycamp.co.uk/ , http://www.canvasholidays.co.uk/ amongst others.

One advantage they have is that they%26#39;re generally good places for youngsters, many of whom speak English :-)

We are staying this summer at www.HotelduChateau-dorgogne.com in Beynac .

They have a nice pool and you can choose 1/2 pension also. They stated for large families there is a discount for children on the pension.

I just read Timeline and hubby got the video which is quite different from the book. It is about the area during the 100 years War in14 century.

We have had very good luck with Simply Perigord (simplyperigord.com) renting houses in the Dordogne. Have used them three times.

Dear Beaulieu,

About 5 years ago I rented a cottage at a property called La Plumardie/Plumerdie-sorry can%26#39;t remember the spelling. They had a number of cottages avialable on their pristine grounds, complete with a a small, but nice pool and a play center for children. The closest towns were La Bugue and Ste Alvere. The price per week was very reasonable. I think they be listed on Gites of France%26#39;s website. From the gite, it was about 15 minutes to the Dordogne river. There is much to see and do in this absolutely beautiful area of France. The architecture is enchanting and the food sublime. I think you will like it!

Bon chance and bon voyage.

Hi, this a gorgeous area. I think this is the link to the cottage a friend (a tasmanian) recently stayed at - she said it was lovley. Look on the map, it is not in a village, but well located.

This link takes you to cottages owned by Melbourne guys - we have stayed in the small one in Monpazier - this is a beautiful town, and has a wonderful market. If you like cooking, the cottage came complete with a copy of Stephanie Alexander%26#39;s %26quot;Cooking and Travelling in SW France%26quot;.

The small house is a town house, right in the village. It is not glamorous, but well-euipped etc. The owners are very good at replying to emails and phone calls. We loved Monpazier - it is considered one of the most perfect bastide towns in France. terrific loication to go on day or half day trips to so many interesting places... ask if you need more help.
