Is this connection possible?

My daughter and I are looking at a Delta flight to CDG on a thursday and have one hour to make our Air France connection to Rome. I have seen a few comments on the forum about this connection but want to hear from others who have tried it. Did you make your flight connection?

Definitely would advise against that. I%26#39;ve read enough to tell you one hour is most likely too short - often, for AF flights, the plane is not pulled up to the terminal but is on the tarmac and you take a shuttle out to it - after you%26#39;ve got from the Delta gate to the AF gate, which most likely are not the same area.

You know, this is not an easy call. The new AF terminal seems to be separate and away from the old terminal-you need to take a shuttle to get there.

However, I know that Delta and AF run a lot of codeshare flights and maybe they do use the same terminal.

I think if you can find out if AF and Delta%26#39;s gates are near each other you are OK. Otherwise, you are going to need more than an hour.

Then, there is the case where I took an AF flight out of JFK last June. We were scheduled to depart at 8:45 pm. We lifted off at 1 a.m. If I had any connection on the same day, I would have probably missed it.

Most of my European trips have connected in Paris with a 1 hour layover and I have only missed one. If you can get at least a two hour layover - go for that. Sometimes my luggage makes the connection, but sometimes it doesn%26#39;t (it has happened twice). Though it has always been delivered to my hotel.

It is extremely stressful with only a one hour connection. Sometimes I%26#39;m running from one terminal to the other the minute I get off the plane.

Thanks so much to everyone for your quick responses. We want to book very soon b/c the prices are good right now and you have really helped. We are checking on the proximity of the gates, but leaning toward a flight with a 2 1/2 layover. This means we will arrive later in Rome, but may give us the advantage of maintaining our sanity and our luggage too :) If we were to miss the connection with the one hour layover option we would lose the benefit (getting to Rome as early as possible) of choosing that flight anyway and create the hassle of getting another connection. Many thanks!

Your inbound DELTA flight will arrive at CDG #2-F. Your connecting outbound AIR FRANCE flight to ROME will depart from CDG #2-E....which is interconnected to #2-F...and a fairly straightforward transfer. Since DELTA is a %26#39;Sky Team%26#39; partner airline of Air France, your luggage will be checked directly through from your inbound to your outbound flight.

So...though an hour is not a lot of time for any airline connection, at any airport (flight delays are not uncommon) this should be more than sufficient time for the transfer between CDG #2-F and #2-E. It%26#39;s also worth noting that AIR FRANCE offers several flights per day between CDG and ROME-Leonardo DaVinci-Fiumicino(FCO) so should your inbound Delta flight be excessively delayed arriving at CDG, you shouldn%26#39;t have any difficulty being re-booked on a later AF flight.

I hate to put a damper on your trip, but I read somewhere that Rome%26#39;s FCO airport has one of the worst rankings for lost bags.

Do your best to carry-on your bags if you can.

Well, I have an advantage there - I never check a bag :)

Hi --

Re Roma Airport and lost bags:

It hasn%26#39;t ever happened to me whether on a connecting to or from or whether an initiating or terminating flight - over a period of several years. It has not happened to my husband either - we%26#39;ve only shared one R/T flight and he%26#39;s been through that airport one way or another many more times than I.

The point to remember about statistics is they only matter when you%26#39;re on the wrong side of them. I never have been, nor my husband. The question is why would you suppose that you are any less lucky than we?

BTW - it was my third missed connecting flight in a row that turned me off CDG forever. I will land there only if there is a gun to my head or my entire vacation is being paid for by someone else. Since neither of those two things is very likely to happen any time soon, I expect to be able to avoid that accursed place through this lifetime, at least.

I fly KLM into AMS and then take a train. Now that I%26#39;m so old and jet lag has become a real problem, I stay over for a night or two. When I was younger and had much less time at my disposal, I used to get a train very shortly after landing, and I usually got to my hotel at about the same time as I would have done if landing at CDG. with much less hassle.

Bon voyage.

CDG was horrendous last year when we flew in from Venice.

If we choose the flight that gives us 2 1/2 hours at CDG, we get to Rome a couple of hours later.

So, we are probably going to avoid CDG altogether by flying into Milan. We will get to Rome at the same time.
