We are travelling to Paris for a day by Eurostar arriving into Gard du Nord. We weill have two children with us (14 and 9) and would like to include the Eiffel Tower and Le Louvre. We are happy to do as much on foot as possible, but help and advice with the best order to do things in, metro stations needed etc greatly appreciated. It is very short notice but too good an opportunity to miss. Also advice where to eat-and when (it will be a Saturday!) Thank you.

Louvre is between the Eiffel Tower and Gare du Nord.
You can do it in any order, depending on whether you want to be on the Eiffel Tower in the day or at night. I like it at sunset. It also depends on just how long you think you%26#39;ll be in the Louvre. The Metro is probably your best bet. There%26#39;s at least 2 miles and a lot of traffic between each spot.
IMO, food options are best at Gare du Nord and in the neighborhoods to the east of the park under the Eiffel Tower (eg Rue Cler--Rick Steves favorite spot). Perhaps the Louvre will let you head out for lunch/maybe Eiffel Tower and re-enter later.
Eiffel Tower might take a couple hours to visit. I highly recommend going up the stairs if you can. It%26#39;s a lot faster than the elevator (assuming that the elevator makes you queue up for a long time) and you see a lot more.

Hi,
One idea may be to take the number 42 bus from Gare du Nord to the Eiffel Tower when you arrive. This route goes past the Opera, across Place Concorde, up the Champs Elysees and the over the river to the tower. It takes longer than the metro of course (about 40 mins depending on traffic), but gives you a nice tour of Paris to get there. When my nephews first came to visit us in Paris we went home that way and they loved seeing their first sights in the city.
After visiting the tower you could then take the Batobus (http://www.batobus.com/) to the Louvre, a nice way to travel which kids usually enjoy, or walk along to get there. Have lunch somewhere around there and then maybe a walk through the Tuileries gardens and up the Champs Elysees and go up the Arc de Triomphe, or go the opposite direction and see Notre Dame and the Ile St Louis and the Batobus again to the Champs Elysees stop and walk up from there.
With a few stops for drinks and to enjoy the sights that would maybe take up most of the day, but you would have seen the main things you want to and a few others besides.
Sorry if this sounds like I am writing an itinerary for you, really just wanted to give you a couple of ideas that may be helpful
