BUDGET-Food in France?

My wife and I will be in France (Provence, Dordogne and Paris for May this year, first time.We have%26#39;nt the faintest idea of the cost of food--

bread, vegs, fruit, milk, coffee, alcohol, etc. We want to see lots of the great sites too,so too much %26quot;good%26quot; eating could blow the Budget.Any suggestions?

Are you self catering or in a hotel? I cut my costs by having one square meal a day in a resto, and buying quiches and prepared salads from supermarkets and delis for the other meal. If you%26#39;re self catering, make use of the wonderful markets and cook it yourself. I%26#39;m actually doing a week self catering this year cos I%26#39;m so tired of wandering round the markets wishing I had a kitchen to cook the fantastic grub in.

Thanks for the suggestions -yes we will be self catering in Paris so Delis and Markets seem the way to go.

You can get a good idea of the cost of food by doing a virtual shop online. Supermarket Carrefour has a web service www.ooshop.fr. You can do your shopping and see what it costs. Many prices are seasonal especially the fresh stuff but you should get a good idea of the costs.
