DSL in apartments

Renting an apartment from Paris Perfect this summer.

Their apts are equipped with DSL internet.

Is this as fast as High speed cable in the US?

Does anyone have an experience with Paris Perfect and the DSL?

My husband and I own our own business and it will be important to check email, etc while there.

Thanks!

Never rented from Paris Perfect but I do have come experience with the DSL question. DSL in Paris is actually much faster than in the US on average. Depending on which provider the apartment owner signed up with, download speeds range from 8MB to 100MB. We have 18MB service from ORANGE (France Telecom) and it%26#39;s reliable (and obviously fast). WIFI is everywhere and is now built-in to all DSL routers offered by all the service providers. Be aware that apartment owners are likely to turn off encryption on WIFI so they don%26#39;t have to administer the internet connection.

BTW, over the last couple of weeks, technicians have been camped outside our front door splicing fiber optic cables that will eventually connect gigabit-speed internet, HDTV, phone, etc. to every apartment in the city. They are planning to start switching the services on as soon as the end of this year.
