Hi.
I am planning a trip to France for August of this year.
So I have some questions:
how many days I should plan for Paris to see:
Louvre, Versaille, few museums, Monmarter and some time for sightseeing/shopping? Is one week enough?
What are hotel prices and where in Latin Quarter to stay? We don%26#39;t need anything fancy.
I also would like to go to Nice after that.
What is the best way of getting there - car rental, train or bus? I also planning to take a trip to Canes and Monaco from there. Should I rent a car in Nice perhaps?
Thanks for all advice.

This sounds like a good plan - most people would say spend at least a week (more, like ten days, if your total travel time allows) in Paris on your first trip. You will find more than enough to fill your time, especially with some down time in cafes, etc.!
For hotels, try the search feature on this site, in the column to the left on this page (put in your budget as one of the search terms). There are many hotels in many price ranges in the Latin Quarter (5th arrondissement, that is, a hotel address with a postal code ending in %26quot;05%26quot;). When you have two or three that suit your budget, you might want to post here for comments (but you also will find many traveler reviews on the site). I personally like the Henri IV Rive Gauche, which is very conveniently located for many sites you will want to visit, but there are many others equally convenient etc.
I would suggest taking trains if you are going as far as Nice, and then renting a car to drive around. Rules of the road are basically the same as in North America, so it won%26#39;t be unnerving to drive there and you would see a lot more that way than if you depend on trains to get around. You might want to consider Provence, rather than the Riviera itself, as it%26#39;s a beautiful and very interesting area (and loved by tourists, but not quite so slick). You might want to pick up a guidebook or two to help select your second destination area.
Have fun with the planning! (Don%26#39;t forget, there are also forums for other parts of France that can be very helpful when you are making plans for areas outside of Paris.)

What are the trips just outside of Paris:some old castles, etc.?
|||
Two of the top day trips for that sort of thing would be Versailles and/or Chantilly. Both are a short train trip outside of Paris, and could occupy the better part of a day. Chantilly in particular would be a great place to take a picnic lunch, as the grounds are extensive and not as formal as at Versailles. Also, you might want to consider Giverny (Monet%26#39;s garden/home).
All of the above are going to be popular and crowded in summer, so do plan to go as early in the day as possible (and for Versailles, you can get a pass that will help avoid some time spent in line).

WHere and how do I get Versailles pass?
Thanks so much.

i went to versailles late last year.
We got there by metro, which is quite quick way of getting there - plus saves all the issues of parking.
Make sure versailles palace is open before you get there - unfortunatly when i went, you could not go inside. (Looked Like Restoration Work) Although we did have a good look around the grounds.
Have a nice trip.

Thank you. Why is latin Quarter better to stay at the hotel?
|||
I suggest not renting a car in Nice. If you get there by train and your priority destinations are Cannes and Monaco, the train is very cheap and convenient. Otherwise, parking will be a hassle.

If you get to Versailles, I recommend going on a Saturday or Sunday to see the fountains in operation. You%26#39;ll be glad that you did. Plan an entire day there.

Is there any coupons for attractions in Paris?
Is there any way to buy tickets in advance to museums to avoid lines?
