Free electric jug kettle looking for a home

I%26#39;m staying in a very basic hotel - it does have a fridge but no means of making myself a cup of tea first thing in the morning or when I return exhausted from working.

Much as I adore France and and am an absolute francofile, I have to admit that going into a café and asking for a tea does not generally provide the beverage I have in mind. :)

So I invested in a cheapish electric jug/kettle (and a mug) from Monoprix, and am happily enjoying my cups of tea (with milk from the fridge) whenever I like.

I%26#39;m going to be staying with friends for the rest of my time in Europe, and although it%26#39;s light it%26#39;s quite bulky, so I really don%26#39;t want to take it any further.

If anyone also staying in basic accommodation would like it, I%26#39;d be happy to pass it on. If someone wants it, they may like to do the same thing when they leave.

I%26#39;m leaving on either Friday or Saturday - I could leave it at the hotel (in St Germain).

Send me a PM if you%26#39;re interested.

That%26#39;s very generous of you. I hope your kettle continues to serve Paris visitors, who are happily enjoying their vacation.

Thanks Shoesy - nearly 60 years on this earth has taught me that %26quot;what goes around comes around%26quot; is an extremely true maxim by which to live.

Sometimes the %26quot;coming around%26quot; takes a little time - but it always comes. :)

I hope this works - it would be fun to track the kettle%26#39;s %26quot;travels%26quot;; but maybe there aren%26#39;t so many tea-loving tourists out there!

We%26#39;ll see.

|||

By the way - in the first line of my original post I meant to say %26quot;exhausted from walking%26quot; - not working!

Yes, I am here to do some work - but so far that hasn%26#39;t exhausted me. It%26#39;s enjoyable - I%26#39;m attending an Alliance Française conference - and secondly, as I work at our State%26#39;s public art gallery,I have lots of meetings set up with my counterparts here at various art museums. :) That%26#39;s fun - not work!

|||

Your work sure sounds like fun, kiwi-di. As for the walking, I%26#39;m positive that anyone who has been to Paris can understand how tired all the walking has made you.

|||

How kind of you. Being a tea drinker, I must say that I appreciate your gesture.

Unfortunately we won%26#39;t be arriving until the 22nd of March.

However ,if you can find a home in the interim, we%26#39;d love to enjoy it and add our chapter to the story of %26quot; The well traveled tea Kettle %26quot;

I hear you about ordering tea - I was really shocked at that, in a nation that cares so much about food, that routinely the tea offered is Liptons! I mean, these these are the people who are responsible for Mariage Freres, and the standard English brands also are widely available in stores, yet they actually drink/serve Liptons?

Yes, I actually picked up some %26#39;house brand%26#39; English Breakfast tea [bags] in the same chain store where I bought the kettle - and it%26#39;s fine. At home I have leaf tea - but I wasn%26#39;t going to go to the bother of buying a teapot as well. :) :) :)

I%26#39;m tending to wake around 5am, and it%26#39;s wonderful to be able to make myself a cuppa.

The kettle is still going begging - I guess if no-one is interested I%26#39;ll just leave it in the room.

Obviously there are no tea addicts staying in budget hotels at the moment!

|||

margieandconnie - sorry, I didn%26#39;t see your post.

Maybe one of the locals who frequents this board would be kind enough to take charge of the kettle until you arrive.

|||

Metromole has kindly taken charge of the kettle/jug - anyone who wants to %26quot;borrow%26quot; it, please send him a message.

I%26#39;d also love to be kept informed about it%26#39;s %26quot;history%26quot; from this point on. :)

I hope you all enjoy your %26#39;cuppas%26#39; as much as I did.

(I meant to put the remaining teabags in the box but forgot. I hope it%26#39;s not inappropriate to mention this, but I bought them (and the jug) at Monoprix in Rue de Rennes, near the corner of Bd St Germain. The teabags came in individual foil packs, and were as good as the ones I use at home (which are also foil packaged - maybe it%26#39;s the same supplier!)

I%26#39;m glad to hear that the kettle has found a foster home, and I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;ll have the opportunity to meet and serve many wonderful people throughout the years to come.
