We would love to see an opera or ballet at the Opera Bastille or Palais Garnier when we visit Paris in March. Is it possible to purchase tickets on the same-day of the show? Am I dreaming? We would be looking at mid-range or lower priced seats.

Do not bother going to the Kiosque at the Madeleine metro stop. They do not sell any tickets for the Opera.
I didn%26#39;t attempt to wait in line for the Bolshoi tickets when I was there. I think availability would depend on the popularity of the show.

Go here www.operadeparis look at your dates for events and go to %26quot;reserver%26quot; to see if there are tickets, then buy on line now. I got mine yesterday!! Click on my name and find the thread tickets online

We will be in Paris Feb 17 to 23. I went online to buy Opera tix - saw they had Orphee et Eurydice at the Palais Garnier and was thrilled. Unfortunately they had no tickets to sell online when I went to buy. I assume this means it is sold out. Or does it mean you can still get tickets at the box office? has anyone had experience with this.

Should read

I suggest checking back frequently . There are tickets to our ballet available now that were NOT the morning I bought mine!! I think in the process some buyers fall aside

Thanks - I will keep checking back. The note on the operadeparis site says %26quot;there are no more places for sale on the internet today%26quot; It seems to imply that on another day there might be seats for sale. Or maybe it%26#39;s there way of saying they are not selling seats over the internet for this production or that it is sold out.If anyone has had experience with this please tell me.

I would buy a ticket on line and pick it up at the box office -- generally the mid to low range seats sell out earlier -- at least in our experience.
We once bought same day seats to a less well know Russian opera -- but more recently have found operas sold out close to the time of performance -- and if a few seats are less, they tend to be the very expensive ones.

My theory is that they have a limited number of seats sold on the internet, and some others tto be sold at the booth and by mail.
On the same day, your option is to stand in line in mid-afternoon or early afternoon and stanbd in line until the booth open at 6h30 to get 6-7 euros tickets, that is for Opéra Garnier, many seats have limited or no view so it is a last minute surprise.
At Bastille, you will be at the very back but you could see very well for 7 euros.
So i think you stand a better chance of seeing well (and also there are more seats so more availability i guess) at Bastille, even though it is not as beautiful a building.

I know people who went to Opera Bastille and, although they enjoyed what they saw, didn%26#39;t like the building very much. On the other hand, Opera Garnier is, I believe, the most beautiful building in all of Paris. For me, it doesn%26#39;t matter whether I like what I see there or not--it is an opportunity to be in that gorgeous environment and marvel at being in Paris and seeing an opera or ballet.
Just keep checking back on line to see if tickets become available. Because they send you the tickets anywhere in the world for no extra charge, it really does pay to get them on line if you can.
