We are planning a trip to Burgundy and would like to hear from those who have been there of a reputable and good gite or apartment in the Beaune, Dijon, or Lyon area. We would prefer to be in a smaller village....Pernand-Vergelesses, Aloxe Corton, Nuits St. George, Chaux, etc. It is difficult to know what is established and good.
Would also like to hear about driving in this region.
Thank you!

Hi Alicia
I hope this reply is not too late for you. We stayed in a gite in Savigny les Beaune about 5 years ago which was very nice, it is on the Gite de France website - www.gites-de-france.com/gites/uk/rural_gites - Region Bourgogne, Department 21 Cote D%26#39;Or, gite number 429. There is information about the village at http://savignylesbeaune.free.fr/ - not a great site but will give you an idea of the place. There is also a site for the chateau -
http://www.chateau-savigny.com/. The gite itself is in the middle of the village across the road from the chateau, the gite was very nice, comfortable, clean and well equipped. There is no garden but a nice courtyard area to sit outside.
We have stayed in the area a few times and have always driven around. I%26#39;m not sure exactly what you would like to know about driving but the roads there are pretty quiet, and we always enjoyed driving through the vineyards to all the small villages. You can easily spend a week there doing that along with trips to Beaune and Dijon. Parking, however, can be a bit of a problem sometimes in Beaune, especially on market days(sorry can%26#39;t remember when they are)but I think there was a bus into Beaune from Savigny although we never used it. To get the most from the area though I think you really need a car,
I hope this is useful, if you need any more specific information about the gite please ask me

To Alison:
Thank you for the gite tip. We have located a place near Semur-en-Auxois but will keep your suggestion in mind. alicia
