purchasing street art in france

I am just looking for ball park pricing, from very small paintings to medium what should i expect to pay and best towns to buy in??

Street-art prices can vary from 10€ or so, upwards to 100€ or more.

If you%26#39;ve delusions of discovering the %26#39;..Picasso of the 21st century..%26#39;....you%26#39;re money will be better invested in betting a three-legged horse to win the Triple Crown. If you come across a work that pleases you...by all means purchase it...but don%26#39;t expect great art.

If you purchase art created in conti, pastels, chalks or charcoal ask the artist if they have spray-on %26#39;..fixative..%26#39; to hold the medium in place during transport...or you could arrive home with a severely degraded image and a small pile of colourful %26#39;dust%26#39;. Cardboard mailing tubes may be purchased to MailBoxes franchises, BHV and La Poste offices.

I purchased an 8%26quot; by about 4%26quot; painting from a street artist a couple of years ago for about 25 euros. He had painted the buildings in front of where he was standing (one end of Ile St. Louis). It was a little realistic piece of Paris and I love it.

The artists at Place de Tertre behind Sacre Coeur aren%26#39;t particularly good--average, definitely not great.

There are plenty of places to find street art in Paris. You can even find it down by the bouchanistas (sp?) near Ile St. Louis/Notre Dame area. If you find an isolated artist, the prices are likely to be more reasonable.

I%26#39;m a little unclear on what kind of art you%26#39;re interested in but, for what it%26#39;s worth, we visit one art marché often:

Marché de la création Bastille

Boulevard Richard-Lenoir

Métro Bastille and Bréguet-Sabin

Saturdays from 9AM to 7:30PM

It%26#39;s the same location as the famous Sunday food market at Bastille. The prices for some wonderful work are surprisingly affordable. On most Saturdays, you%26#39;ll have at least 75 artist%26#39;s booths to peruse.

I don%26#39;t recommend Place de Tertre at all. It%26#39;s a tourist magnet and therefore a hack magnet. You%26#39;ll need to get off the tourist track to find the treasures.

I have purchased three pieces of art in Paris, two from street vendors and one from one of the artists in Montmatre.

One is a small watercolor of the Pont des Arts with Notre Dame in the backgrond which was 10.00e. A second is a larger (12 x 8) colored pencil scene of the artist square in Montmatre purchased form a lady in the Luxembourg Garden for...8.00e. The third was more expensive but it is a small, almost caricature of the side of the hill going up to Montmartre. It has the Moulin Rouge in red in the lower left and Sacre Coeur in the upper right. Connecting these are buildings along the route upwards in ink outline.

I wouldn%26#39;t part with any of these.

We recently purchased two paintings in front of Musee D%26#39;Orsay. True they aren%26#39;t great works of art but a wonderful reminder of Paris and we love them. What matters most is if they make you happy. I think they were 15 Euro each. Happy shopping.

We have gotten two original water color painting about a foot and a half each for $65.00 USD each.

We have bought four small oils for about $20.00 USD each.

I toook a photo of the smaller of the three - the Pont des Art. It%26#39;s about 6 x 6 inches, and unfortunately it came out fuzzy...
