I had booked a hotel in the Latin Quarter until I realized how much smarter it would be to rent a studio for less money with a washer/dryer, refrigerator, phone with free calls, etc.
I have reserved a studio on rue Vieille du Temple in the Marais.
Can anyone tell me about the area around that apartment? I did notice I%26#39;ll be right next to L%26#39;As du Fallafel, which makes me tingle with happiness.

I posted this last night after most of the Paris experts had gone home. Thought I%26#39;d give it another try.

Glad you bumped your post. I completely missed it.
The area around your studio is excellent. It%26#39;s in the center of the Marais and couldn%26#39;t be better for beautiful Parisian architecture, museums, and proximity to restaurants and historic sites. You%26#39;re not far from the Hotel de Ville and St-Paul Metro stations on Line-1 so I think you made a good call. It%26#39;s in our neighborhood and we know the street well.
In addition to L%26#39;As du Fallafel, you%26#39;re a short walk from Le3, a great resto and one of the best lunch values in Paris for nouvelle cuisine. Years later, we%26#39;re still eating there 3 or 4 times a month. 3 rue St-Croix de la Bretonnerie (at rue Vielle du Temple).
Another great value is the %26quot;Cote du Boeuf pour 2%26quot; at %26quot;Robert et Louise%26quot; 64 rue Vielle du Temple. This place is an absolute jewel. Best steak we%26#39;ve had in Paris so far.
There are so many great restos in the area, I don%26#39;t know how to expand on my two recommendations. They%26#39;re just our favorites du jour.

Thank you, metromole.
I reserached quite a bit and thought we had landed ourselves in a good location. What you describe is exactly what we%26#39;re looking for.
I wonder if you could give us an idea of pricing at the eateries you mentioned. Just a ballpark figure. We%26#39;ll likely hit all of your favorites but I wanted to know a general price estimate before hand.
Also, we%26#39;ll arrive in Paris at Gare St. Lazare and I wondered which of the two metro stops you mentioned would be better. They seem about an even distance. Is one a prettier walk than the other to the studio?
And do you recommend a certain metro route from Gare St. Lazare? On my own, to avoid large stations and find an easy transfer, I was thinking something like line 9 to Roosevelt station to line 1 to St. Paul. I defer to your expertise, of course!
(Thank you so much for your help!)

Not a problem mntoathens,
For my two LUNCH suggestions, Le3 is 17€ for three course meal, including wine. The lunch menu changes daily.
The %26quot;Cote du Boeuf pour 2%26quot; is 40€ (20€ per person). It includes the incredible Cote du Boeuf, cooked on an open fire, salad and/or potatoes flavored with goose fat (this is to die for).
For the Metro, I%26#39;d recommend you take Line-14 from St-Lazare to Chatelet. Follow the signs to Metro Line-1, direction %26quot;Château de Vincennes%26quot;. Ride just one stop to the %26quot;Hotel de Ville%26quot; stop and follow the Sortie signs to %26quot;rue de Lobau%26quot;. When you get to street level, cross rue de Rivoli and walk north on rue des Archives to rue St-Croix de la Bretonnerie (2 blocks). Make a right turn, walk to the end of the street and you%26#39;ll be there.
St-Paul and Hotel de Ville Metro stops are a pleasant walk to your address but the HdV stop is a shorter walk.
