We%26#39;re a couple with a 15-year-old daughter about to commmit to an apartment in Montparnasse for a week in February, but we find we%26#39;re holding back because of the area. We%26#39;re worried that it%26#39;s too commercial, too %26quot;big,%26quot; not enough Parisian charm. Neither of us has ever visited that neighborhood -- we%26#39;ve stayed at Hotel des Grandes Ecoles (couldn%26#39;t get a room for three this time) and enjoy the 5th but other areas are cheaper (and available). Our main focus is museums, but we%26#39;re comfortable with public transportation. We%26#39;d like to have a good breakfast place nearby, interesting food shops, fairly safe at night. Of course would love to be near affordable, casual bistro. Any advice appreciated.

%26quot;Montparnasse%26quot; is actually too vague to give good advice. Do you have the apartment address?

The area right around the Tour Montparnasse is definitely not my personal favorite, but it%26#39;s not so bad. Plus, it%26#39;s pretty close to the 6th and to the Luxembourg Garden, you could walk to either.

Thanks for your quick responses! It%26#39;s on the Boulevard du Montparnasse, near rue de Rennes.

Very very busy intersection. You can look at the streets using
http://photos.pagesjaunes.fr/
start with an address - after that, use the navigational arrows; click on a street on the map itself to see that street

There are restaurants, groceries, good transportation there.... it%26#39;s still a part of Paris... and the small streets around there will look ok to you.

Yes, Blvd du Montparnasse/Rue de Rennes is very very busy. If you want a place with the typical Parisian charm, this probably isn%26#39;t it, but it is close-by.

Thanks all for your help, and the very wonderful pagesjaunes website. I don%26#39;t think we%26#39;ll be happy in this area, and are in the midst of heavy duty searching. Your input is much appreciated.

If you can find it on a map and it isn%26#39;t too far from where you are staying, look for the rue Pot de Fer. It is a city block long with restaurants on both sides. You could eat at a different one every day and still have a dozen left over.
