Hi Travelnutty.
I have read loads of reviews and found that your the person who knows everything so now I turn to you for help.(no offence to those who have already kindly helped I have really appreciated and learnt from your advice.(please do anyone who still wishes to)
Im going to Paris for 4 nights in April with my husband. I am not able to walk for too long before I am in to much pain. I then use my wheelchair. Most people have kindly advised that arrodes 5th is the best area to stay in but after having read many reviews and reports I believe it is has lots of narrow and cobbled streets. Which would not be good for wheelchairs.
Would it be best if I stayed in another area say 4 or 6th. How long would I need to visit arrodes 5 part where all the cobbled and narrow streets are?.
I need a hotel or apartment for about £75ngt which is close to bus line. Also has restuarants/places to eat any sites nearby.
thanks........Bubbles

Bubbles, I am no expert, especially with regard to wheelchair and accessibility... but I can %26#39;search%26#39; so here are some good things to read:
Tips from %26#39;Faux%26#39; -
access-able.com/tales/Paris-access-2003.html
They tell what hotels and locations were good for them, and describe how to use the bus with a chair.
Here is another thread about %26#39;moving around Paris for a disabled traveler%26#39;:
tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187147-i14-k51632…
Please note that most of Paris has sidewalks - sometimes they are crowded - but you are not limited to %26#39;cobblestones%26#39; for sightseeing. Don%26#39;t forget, if you are using a lightweight chair, you can get a taxi now and then.
Did you decide on getting an apartment? Be sure there is an elevator and lots of photos to look at, and be sure to ask about the specific apartment(s) here before you commit.
I think, to be most central, have plenty of local cafes, shops, etc. and multiple metro and bus options, you might focus on area around/between metro stops Mabillon / Maubert-Mutualite / to the Seine. Second or alternate area: between metro stops Rambuteau / St Paul (Marais area).

There are lots of suggestions if you do a search on TA for disabled information.
I also am disabled and have stayed many times in the 5e ...there are the sloped curbs for wheelchairs there.
Make sure you ask for a handicap room or place that has a large enough elevator for a wheelchair.
The buses are great..they have a lift for the wheelchair.
Be sure to bring your handicap ID and a letter from your doctor saying you are 100% handicap according to USA (or country you reside) standards. You maybe allowed free admisson to many museums some places also your companion to come in free with you.(The Louvre is one, and there are lots of others. You just need to ask at the desk.)
Have a great time!

Here are some Left Bank hotels in the area I described that are at or just above your 160€ rate; I scanned the reviews first but I don%26#39;t know if you have any special needs regarding the hotel rooms:

HI ALL
Thanks for help was going for 160euro per night but that was when we were staying for 3 nights now we have extended it to 4 so have to cut the budget.
Had thought about Hotel du College du France as they are in our price range have good reveiws and are recommended in the aa travel guide we got yeserday.
Was interested in a couple of aparments that were only £60 per night on vacation paris but they are booked up and all other apartments are out of our price range. We hope to go on a last minute cruise in August so have to keep money back for that).
hope that explains
think this hotel is near a bus line

You might want to look at this :
…andre-latin-paris-hotel.com/andrelatinparis…
I stayed here and the bus is right outside the Hotel Andre Latin. You can walk to several resturants. The Metro is a couple of blocks.
Look at the pricing site they have internet specials 93E to 101 E per night. It is in the 5e with an elevator. Breakfast is just 6E per person per day.
|||
If you like Hotel College de France, hurry and book it. It is very popular.
The Andre Latin should be good, too, I think maybe it is a bit further down blvd St Michel area... I believe they renovated their rooms (some or all?) in the past couple of years.

Travelnutty/Discover
Thankyou so much for all your help. I tried Hotel Andre Latin which was full.
The informaion about the buses and the ramps is useful. I have 2 wheelchairs and am not sure which one to take. I took my lightweight one last year when we went on a cruise. However the places we visited were very cobbled streets and found this to be very uncomfortable so wondered if it would be better to take the larger one with large wheels.
I have sent a booking form to Hotel College France who have 1 room of each left. They will reply within 2 days. Would you know if they have a bus
stop nearby?.
I do have a disabled card which I keep in my purse and also a letter of proof from disability living allowance for my entitlment to disability allowance.

Bubbles, did you read the articles posted above (on Jan 26)... as they might help you know which chair to bring. But I am having trouble thinking of places with %26quot;cobblestones%26quot; where you couldn%26#39;t roll. Very minimal to my recollection.
You can pull up a local map for any Paris address and see the bus stops - go to www.ratp.fr
In the tan box, enter the full address, then click %26quot;plan de quartier%26quot;
Within a block of HCF there is a stop with 5 bus lines.

Bubbles, look at Hotel Abbatial -
Old site:

New site:
http://www.hotelabbatialsaintgermain.com/
They seem to have availability for April at 129€-140€ for doubles...
