chantilly and senlis

Can I get to chantilly and then to senlis by train starting from Paris?

Also, I can%26#39;t seem to find too much information on these to places. Is it worth the time to go?

It does worth the time on my opinion, as these places are a little bit more off the beaten path compared to Versailles and Vaulx le Vicomte.

It is much easier to go to Chantilly rather than to Senlis, as the later one has no rail station.

This lack of rail facilities is in fact one of the reason for which Senlis has kept a flavor of the past, as being not swallowed by Paris region being too difficult for the commuters.

I%26#39;d suggest that if you are short on time, you focus on Chantilly that will provide enough things to do for a whole day.

Basically in Chantilly you must see:

- The castle itself, with the surrounding park. If you plan to go there on late spring or summer I suggest to have a lunch in the park, as there is several restaurants.

- The Grandes Ecuries (grand stables) that, even if you are not a horse addict must be seen, as it is often confused with the castle itself by many visitors.

- the city itself, small, pretty much as it was at the end of the 19th century (stone mansions, cobblestones streets, etc)including the %26#39;potager des princes%26#39; (princes%26#39; vegetables garden) that is a 5mn walk from the Castle.

About Senlis, you can take a bus from Chantilly to there. Basically, it%26#39;s a medieval city that was a royal city in the late middle-age : a cathedral, old streets, an interesting horses and hounds museum and the local museum too.

Although I like this city a lot, I think it would be too much time to do both Chantilly and Senlis in one day.

If you are interested in middle-ages towns, you can have a look at Provins, which is east of Paris, if time permits

Among the three options, my favourite is definitely Chantilly.

I loved the Chateau at Chantilly, the museum inside it has an amazing collection of paintings, and it is NOT crowded ever, not even in August.

I even enjoyed the Horse Museum across the road ( so to speak) and I do not even like horses!

The grounds at the Chateau are lovely and manageable and of course one must try the strawberries and Chantilly cream in the garden!
