Going to Paris for the 1st time in March with my 17 yr old daughter.
Would like to stay somewhere where we could %26quot; just step out of the door%26quot; in the evening for a few hours to eat and have a drink that would be safe.
Have looked at Hotel L%26#39;Eperance in Rue Pascal but wondered if this may be a bit isolated.
Is there a %26quot;main bit%26quot; of the Latin Quarter or is the whole area full of cafes etc?
Thanks

You might feel like it%26#39;s a bit %26#39;south%26#39; of the main sights and busy part of the Latin Quarter. There is rue Mouffetard just there... but you might be happier up around the Sorbonne/Pantheon area...

Henri IV Rive Gauche is another great one...
Otherwise, go over one arrondissement and try the Millessime...it%26#39;s not that expensive and wonderfully located for a mother/daughter

Technically the heart of the Latin Quarter is Place de la Sorbonne off the Boulevard Saint-Michel. The area is very safe to walk in the evenings.
I like to stay at the Hotel Résidence Monge on rue Monge which is well situated for a good choice of restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance.

Dear chicarosa
We have stayed in the 5th and I agree with other posts that Rue Pascal is a little south to be where the action is. I think that around the Sorbonne or Rue Mouffetard is more lively. Even Rue Monge is a little quiet at night but 2 minutes from place Contrescarpe (a very lively square) and Rue Mouffetard and Rue pot de Feu with lots of cafes bars etc. It is very safe at night and there are lots of eating places. The metro links are great for getting all over the city.Last year we stayed in an apartment on Rue Tournefort which we booked through the website for some of the hotels recommended by previos posts, Hotels Paris Rive Gauche, I can recommend it. You can fall out of the door and literally cross the road to Rue pot de Feu.

Thank you for all the information.
I was just a little worried about eating out in the evenings and didn%26#39;t want to walk too far from the hotel in the dark.
A hotel with cafes etc on the doorstep is ideal.
I will look for accomodation in the areas that you have recommended.

Chicarosa , did you read the reveiws on this site, they all ( except one) seemed good, and more then one poster mentions the %26quot; great location%26quot; ?

Its been a few years since I was in Paris but I always stayed in little hotel (the Du Lys) in the corner of the Boulevards St. Germain and St. Michel. The whole area is very busy after dark and I always felt completely comfortable walking around alone as an (increasingly older!) single woman.

I don%26#39;t know the hotel, but I second the safety comment. Last night I walked [alone] from the Hotel de Ville to bd St Germain after 8pm. There were people everywhere (including in the %26quot;back sreets%26quot; - which were as busy as the main boulevards), and felt 200% safe.
A couple of nights ago I walked back to my hotel from Montparnasse, without the slightest hesitation.
There is no way I would do this at home. :)

It is very safe, so safe you might want to consider staying in a hotel 2-3 minute walk away from the busy areas just to get some place a little quieter for sleeping. I wouldn%26#39;t worry about exploring the area, even after dark.
