What to do in 6 days in Corsica in July?

Hi All!

I am planning a trip from Nice into Corsica mid July next year and have 6 nights there. Planning on either flying into Figari or Ferrying into Ajaccio, then making my way north by car to ferry over to NIce from Calvi.

Any recommendations on things that must do? Sample itineraries?Should I concentrate my time only in the south? Or Must sees inland or in the North? or Must stay palces off the beaten track?

Also, any recommend any overnight or one day walking trails? Considering also I assume it is going to be very hot!

Thanks!!

Hi Annie

Mid July is peak season in Corsica so accommodation will be expensive and scarce in many places. And you%26#39;re right - it will be hot!

In order for anyone to give you a sensible and useful answer, you do need to be a little more specific. For example, Your destination airport is important, and do you like beaches, mountains, or both?

In any event, there are no real must sees on Corsica - it%26#39;s ALL worth seeing for one reason or another and you%26#39;ll certainly never see it all in 6 days.

Hi there!

thanks for your reply.

I think I would like to fly into Figari airport from Nice and work my way up North to catch a ferry from Calvi to Nice 6 dsays later -is that feasible?

I like both!!! Want to spend some time on some nice, white sand beaches, ideally not tooo busy -if at all possible, and if ossible do a one day hike/walk- if there are any?

I am open to suggestions! Don;t midn staying outside of town centres in B%26amp;Bs etc.

Thank you!!

If you fly into Figari, the area along the east coast from Bonifacio to Porto Vecchio and beyond would be ideal for beaches, there are lots to choose from. But it IS busy during July and you%26#39;ll find it difficult to find accommodation and avoid the crowds. This actually applies to most places.

You might then spend a couple of days in Corte in the mountains. Lots of walks and tou to consider. The Restonica Valley is good and has a large car park at the end of the road through the valley where there arewalks to the Lac de Mwelo and the Lac de Capitello.

South of Corte there is the area around Vizzavona and its forest which also has many walks. One of the most popular is the walk to the Cascade des Anglais which uses an easy section of the notorious GR20 footpath.

Then onto the Calvi area. You could visit one of my personal favorites, the Asco Valley. One of the few reasonably accesible places that you can escape the crowds!

You%26#39;ll see lots on the Calvi area on this forum - plenty of beaches and a coastal tramway which visits many of them.

You will already appreciate that 6 days is a VERY short time for this trip, but hopefully you%26#39;ll want to go back and see more of the island.

Aardvark already makes great suggestions.

I like also the Balagne area very much. It is an area between Calvi and L%26#39;ile Rousse. There are a lot of nice villages, as Pigna, Belgodère, etc, beautiful landscapes and very nice little restaurants.

Have a look :

Beautiful pictures from the Balagne area on this website too, although there is no english version :

Thank you both for your sugesstions so far!!

Aardvark -The Cascade des Anglais path you are speaking about- how long does it take to do this? Should I stay one night in the area?

Are the beaches/area around Calvi better than down south towards Bonifacio? As my itinerary isn;t set, so I am trying to decide if I should just stay in one half of the island.

Thanks again!!

Hi Annie

Youi%26#39;ll find info on various walks around Corte and the Cascade des Anglais walk on

explore.co.uk/Explore/…CV.pdf

Corte is well worth a couple of days, but it does of course depend on your priorities.

I wouldn%26#39;t like to say which beaches are the more desirable - I personally think that those around Calvi would get my vote if only for the tramway - you cabn get a rest from driving for a day or two.

Thank you! I will look into your suggestions!

There is an excellent little book called %26quot;Walk and Eat Corsica%26quot;

ISBN 1-85691-295-7

with a variety of walks described including the Cascade des Anglais

Hello Annie,

The website aardvark10 directs you to for the Cascade des Anglais says it is 5.5 hours. This must include the loop they describe, as my wife wrote down that the roundtrip between Vizzavona and the falls is 3 hours, and this included following the trail up the side of the falls to get away from the crowds (in May). The bit from Vizzavona to the base of the falls is about as flat as it can get in the mountains. Beautiful area. Vizzavona boasts that it has the cleanest air in France.

Corte is a great option for hikes in July, as any coastal hikes could be overbearing in the heat.

Yesterday, finally, I posted some pictures of our 2003 trip to Corsica on the web. They can be found here community.webshots.com/user/JQReports…
