Honfleur to Mont St Michel?

My wife and I are thinking about basing ourselves in Honfleur. Would it be smarter to spend two nights there and one night at MSM, then head back to Paris or could we do a daytrip to MSM???

It depends how you are travelling - If by car Honfleur to MSM is at least 2 1/2 hours (Via Michelin says 2 hours, but they do expect you to blast away regardless).

If youre on Public transport it would be an interesting day%26#39;s travel to Mont St Michel from Honfleur, but you wouldnt see much when you get there!

I know I%26#39;m responding to an old post here, but does anyone know what kind of public transportation is available between Honfleur and Mont-St-Michel? I would like to visit both for more than a simple day-trip, and do not want to rent a car.
