Our family of four will be in Paris in March, departing to London via the Chunnel. The closest RER stop to our hotel on the left bank is St Michel. Since we are travelling with two fairly capable kids (10 %26amp; 14) is it possible to get to Gare Nord fairly easily, with luggage from St Michel? Any estimated time? Also, any suggestion for our three nights with kids is appreciated. We plan the major stuff: Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Saint Chappelle, catacombs, Champs-Elysee, Notre Dame. Is the bus tour or the boat tour better?
Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Nothing to it. Direct on RER B, under 15 minutes.

Hi kim,
Of course the easy answer is to tell you to take a taxi. It would be the most straightforward solution and should be at the top of your options list if you have a lot of luggage. Buses aren%26#39;t a good option with a lot of luggage.
Your two other options are the Metro Line-4 and the RER-B to Gare du Nord from St-Michel.
At the GdN station, the RER-B platform is roughly twice the distance to the Eurostar passport control kiosks than the Metro Line-4 platform but it%26#39;s only an extra 5 minutes if you don%26#39;t get lost. The Metro will have more stairs to climb at GdN and St-Michel so I think the RER may be the best bet (more escalator options). Follow the signage to the %26quot;Grande Lignes%26quot; at GdN. The entrance to the Eurostar is on the second level above tracks 2 %26amp; 3.

Having taken two boys to Paris (who were boy 14 at the tiem ) you seemed to have hit all the highligts, my boys loved the Catacombs btw.

Assuming that you will already have either extra Metro tickets or a valid transportation pass (so this trip would be a no additional cost) then depending on your starting address---either the #4 Metro ligne from the SAINT MICHEL Metro portion of this large station complex...OR..RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne train from the SAINT MICHEL-NOTRE DAME RER portion of the station complex. At least from the RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne portion of the GARE du NORD station, there are escalators up to the %26#39;..street-llevel%26#39; SNCF/Eurostar/Thalys portion of the GARE du NORD station complex.
If your Metro tickets are all gone and/or your transportation passes have expired...then just take a TAXI PARISIEN directly from your accommodations to Gare du Nord. The taxi fare from the SAINT MICHEL neighborhoods to Gare du Nord should run approx. 10-12€ on the meter PLUS 2,70€ for the 4th passenger and 1€ per bag (after the 1st)

Guys,
What wonderful detailed information, thank you. As always, trip advisor folks are the best travel consultants. Your information will be well used and I look forward to submitting a report upon our return. As it stands, I think we will plan on taking the RER ourselves, unless we are too pooped after several days in Paris and need to rest up for the London metro!
Again, thank you for taking the time to share your expertise.
