Essential must-sees

I%26#39;m staying in Lille for the week but with this being my first trip to France, of course I%26#39;m going to see Paris. What are the absolute must-sees? I know there is a lot to the city, but apart from the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, what should I not miss? I%26#39;m going to come back another time and visit properly, so this time I want to get the obvious touristy stuff out of the way, but how many days do I need to do that?

Any guidebook or website will give a breakdown itinerary of the typical %26#39;must sees%26#39;. Go to Destinations and then Paris under www.fodors.com or www.frommers.com

For a brief %26#39;overview%26#39; kind of visit, I%26#39;d say to give it 3 days. Don%26#39;t overload the itinerary - allow some strolling, observing, unplanned experiences..
