I am thinking of attending this festival June 26-29, 2008 and have a few questions.
1) From the photos on the web site it seems a huge number of people attend this event. Does this make it difficult to get a taste of wine?
2) Is the event capacity controlled?
3) If a person%26#39;s non-professional objective is wine in Bordeaux, is this the recommended event?
4) any words of wisdom on the subject is appreciated.

The Bordeaux Wine Festival was originally created about a decade ago as a wine-related event in the years when the biennial Vinexpo trade show was not held here. Over this time the festival has grown in size and importance, and today has assumed a significant place on the city%26#39;s calendar of activities.
Unlike Vinexpo, which is open only to professionals, the Festival is open to the general public and the tastings and presentations are designed for this audience. Although anyone may wander the grounds, to taste the wines one must buy a tasting pass; this combined with the eight different wine tents (each of which is staffed with around a half-dozen servers) effectively makes it easy to get wine in your glass.
In addition to the tasting there are workshops and exhibits which are designed to help better understand how wine is made and aid in becoming a better wine taster. It%26#39;s all great fun.
The eleven tasting tickets may be used over the four days of the festival, and the glass and its carrying case is yours to keep.
If you are planning on coming, I%26#39;d suggest making hotel arrangements in advance. Although the festival was originally created by the municipality for the locals, with time it has come to attract visitors from far outside Bordeaux--like yourself, perhaps. Unless you are considering going out to the châteaux during your stay, you need not worry about renting a car as the festival takes place in the heart of the city.
