July in Cote d'Azur with a baby - is this mad?

We usually do a more off the beaten track kind of holiday and are looking at staying in the mountains behind Nice. But is it crazy busy around this area in the summer or is it possible to find a few quieter places to relax and have a swim. Thanks

As soon as you get a few miles inland there are very few people around. I often cycle in the hills behind Nice and once I get five miles or so inland there is virtually no traffic, even in August. The stretch of coast between Nice and Monaco never has the density of crowds you would expect in an English resort, although the coast road is very busy. The small beaches around Cap Ferrat are good for swimming and never crowded.

Some years ago I did a bike ride from Geneva to Antibes in August. After a week in the peace and quiet of the Alps, Antibes seemed like something close to hell with its vast crowds and traffic jams.

The Cote Esterel between Cannes and St Raphael is unspoilt and has some lovely coves for swimming but you need to get there early on a summer day as there is very little parking.
