I%26#39;m renting a car for a day to drive to Aix in March. Any tips from anyone?
Car rental company recommendation
Things to look out for?
Things to avoid?
Thanks, in advance, for any input.

A few months back we checked rental prices in Nice AND in Austin Tx. Surprisingly, for the model we wanted, Hertz (No. 1 Club - join free and get discounts) was no dearer than others in Nice and the cheapest in Tx.
The roads shouldn%26#39;t be too busy in March but Nice is a very very large city and rush hour morning and evening will be busy. On the country roads, it can be quite twisty so suggest you don%26#39;t hire a large car. Also, we saw quite a few radar traps, usually on the very part of the road where on could go faster (it%26#39;s the same in UK).

Thank You for your input, Buddy.
The plan is to take the car straight out of Nice (Why drive in the city?) and head over to Aix for a day. come back and then have the car at our disposal to get to the airport the next morning.
I%26#39;m finding that a car with %26quot;unlimited miles%26quot; is tough to find...but the search continues.
Also: Can anyone recommend any %26quot;must sees%26quot; on the drive to or from Aix en Provence.
thanks again

Hi%26#39;all: If you%26#39;re hiring from Nice town rather than the airport, I would return to Nice town within the 24 hours. If you drive to the airport, you have the usual hassle of parking it and handing over to the hire co. If you CAN get %26quot;rid%26quot; of it, it is so easy to take the bus to the airport and you walk straight in to the building.
I have a feeling that short-term hires are often mileage extra.

For the short rental period you are seeking, most of my recommendations will not be available. You%26#39;ll need to contact a retail rental firm such as these:
http://www.avis.com/
http://www.europcar.com/
http://www.sixt.com/
http://www.interrent.com/
http://www.hertz.com/
Short term rentals (those fewer than 4 days), are quite expensive on a daily basis (reaching 100 euros for the smallest cars) and may have restrictions such as mileage.

things to look out for? other road users
things to avoid? other road users
The worst and most selfish drivers on the planet.
You will notice most vehicles have bumps etc.

Know what you mean St Paul but many of the %26quot;locals%26quot; are Italian Grand Prix drivers (well they all think they are!). Portuguse? Worst death rate in Europe by some statistics. Germans? Fastest - with no limits on some roads. British? Fastest - even with limits on roads. Spanish? I%26#39;m the one who drove the wrong way round a Spanish roundabout with a grinning Spanish policeman watching me. Maltese? On my God!

Good stuff....No worries.
As we like to say here...I%26#39;m planning to %26quot;bring it%26quot;
and, being from Miami, I have plenty of attitude if need be.
cheers

I%26#39;m not sure what there is to see in route from Nice to Aix, as we took the train. Once you get to Aix though, a car is more hassle than it%26#39;s worth. Park it on the edge of the old town somewhere, and you can walk everywhere from there. Aix is a very compact and walkable city.
