I will be arriving on an 8h30 morning overseas flight and was hoping to book an Air France flight later that morning directly to Avignon. Looking on their Air France website, it appears that my only option for late Sept. is out of Orly? How far are the two airports from one and other and what would be the easiest way to get there? Are there shuttles by chance?
Otherwise, I may have to look into the TGV..hopefully I could get that out of CdG, late in the morning. Just seems like the flight is actually cheaper than the train.
Also, which airport is closer to central Paris (e.g. Eiffel Tower etc) if I want to spend a night in Paris at the end of the trip?

Air France Coaches will take you directly to Orly from CDG for 16 euros. It take approx 1 hour.

This is exactly what I should do, first choice. The TGV takes approximately 3 hours.

Orly is much closer that CDG to central Paris. It is also located much farther south than CDG.

Easiest way will be TAXI PARISIEN between your CDG arrival termianl and ORLY departure terminal....approx 70-80 mins taxi fare 75-80€
Next on the hit parade is #3 Les Cars Air France Coach route--approx.80-90 mins....16€ per person

Third on the hits list is RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne train from one of its two(2) stations within CDG to ANTONY station...then ORLYVAL shuttle/train to your ORLY departure terminal (approx 80-90 mins...15,40€)
ORLY is closer in to Paris than CDG...as a basis of comparison the average taxi fare from CDG to central Paris will run 45-55€.....from ORLY to central Paris 30-35€

OK. Thanks for the info. I will look further into the TGV option.
Glad to know that Orly is closer to downtown core if I decide to return to Paris at day early at the end of the trip, rather than take a hotel near CdG.

Sorry...a couple more questions. If I opt for the TGV, is the train station/stop near CdG airport?
Also, I%26#39;m looking at the website but it is not clear why I can%26#39;t put %26quot;Canada%26quot; as as Country for tickets to be delivered, but USA appears. Am I expected to pick up my tickets, at the train station, the day of travel?

The TGV station is at the airport, terminal 2.

You should have an option to print the tickets locally. A word of caution: if your aircraft is late and you miss your train, your tickets are probably non-transferable to a later train and non refundable.

The SNCF/TGV/RER train station at CDG is a part of the larger, CDG #2 complex--interconnected between CDG #2-C %26amp; D and CDG #2-E %26amp; F...easily accessible on foot from any of the CDG #2 buildings (#2-A, B, C, D, E or F) and via CDGVAL automated shuttle/train from CDG #1 in a few minutes.
The reason why CANADA (or the US) are not available as options on the SNCF web site is because RAIL EUROPE is supposed to have the exclusive, North American agency rights for all Eurail member railways (SNCF included). So select FRANCE as your country. Technically, the on-line purchase transaction take place within the SNCF computer system, which is located in...(wait for the drum roll and ta-da)..FRANCE. For all but FULL FARE fare categories, you can print out your %26#39;paper tickets%26#39; on your home computer...or...collect your tickets at any SNCF train station or SNCF boutique in France. In as much as the CDG-AVIGNON schedule is VERY tight for an 08:30 AM air arrival at CDG, I recommend that you follow the on-line purchase process ***CAREFULLY*** and print out your tickets...to avoid unnecessary delays collecting tickets at CDG.

Thanks everyone for the tips. At least I know the station is pretty much on-site...but I will ensure that I give myself maybe 2 hours between any train departure I opt for to account for possibly flight delays, baggage claim and transfer. I will also likely book %26quot;refundable%26quot; tickets...to ensure that if I run into a problem, I can re-book. There appears to be a few trains in the morning and early afternoon.
